My Personal Page
First off, welcome to my page! This is my little place to find out about me, my layout and interests.
So, who am I? I
am
Mike Phalen, a model railroader from Manitowoc, that has lived in Green Bay
since 1983, graduated from Green Bay Southwest High school in 1988. After high
school, I moved around a bit between here and the Manitowoc - Two Rivers area
before settling down in Green Bay in 1997. At that time I started my 3rd layout,
a free standing shelf style layout (if there can be such a thing) that had a
major change in 2001. Though I have not done a lot of work on it since late in
1999, when I started a new career, it still is used from time to time. I
recently bought a house in Kaukauna, and will be starting on my 4th layout.
I
am a phone technician for an area communication company, installing phone
systems as well as installing
cables for computer and voice networks, and video monitoring systems. I started
this from the advice of a friend that had been doing it for a about a year, and
after talking with him about it, he convinced me to give it a try. I like it
quite a bit, but it can have it's down sides; lots of travel (though the company
I work for now does not go real far), spurts of super busy - then dead, and
being dirty, but needing to stay clean (usually when someone needs a cable
installed it goes in the ceiling, and how many places do you know that vacuum
and dust the area above a drop ceiling? And these people don't want dirty
fingerprints on things either.) It may not be landing F-14's on an aircraft
carrier, but hey, it's living!
Also in may spare time I do role-playing, Cyberpunk (a dark future game, in the style of John Mnemonic, Blade Runner, etc.), self teaching how to do sculpture, and puttering around the yard. And the new house... which is actually 40 plus years old... I'm doing different things to it.
